I am not interested in legacy, I am interested in improving the forum. I put much time and energy into it, I dare so as much as anyone else has.
When the mods and Mikortik improve the posting process, I will play. I will no longer participate in chaos resulting in really inept handling of TPs.
Tis why DISCORD, etc etc doesnt appeal to me as there is no discipline/structure.

The onus is on posters like yourself that see the value of structure in posting, and a process, to speak up.

If selfish is what it takes, to wake folks up, selfish it will be...........

To be clear, yes taking a vacation, will no longer will be assisting posters.
Not only because some here think that guessing at issues actually helps, boggles my mind how one can purport to be constructive and yet be so logically blind to the fact they are adding to the choas, not reducing it. Whine away, I would rather progress forward. I would give mods my own money if they deleted guessers posts. :-)

Will resume assisting posters when MT gives the mods, the authority and scope to semi-institutionalize posting. This lack of approach, supported by MT by not doing anything, is the main crux of the issues, on the forum IMHO. I think having a structured approach would also go along way to remove tone issues that are not palatable to some.

Two ideas come to mind (clearly others have their own inputs) .

1. First 50 posts have to follow a template format to be hashed out.
Action: if not done correctly, the post is not approved and will not appear.

2. New posters, as part of their joining the forum have to acknowledge reading an Instruction Set of how to POST (example below for discussion only)
FORMAT1: The first 50 posts need to be reviewed/approved first
FORMAT2: Less optimal and more draconian. Let posts be posted and if necessary take the appropriate actions, examples:
Action(i): If a new poster does not follow the format/process prescribed, then no answers are provided. Mod may state "follow thread-->Make a Post etc..)
Action(ii): If no re-posts are done within a week post is removed.
Action(iii): If posters attempt to answer, to a post that is clearly not to standard, mods can warn poster and remove post ( 3rd infraction banned for a week )

3. Option 3?4?

Discussion:

Getting posters acclimatized right away and starting on the right foot is a good thing!
- will reduce frustration
- provides a structured approach to issues
- outcome will be better focused initial posts
- outcome will be quicker resolved issues
- more folks will be served
- threads will provide better solution examples being shorter and focused
- creates an expected standard of threads instead of the current chaos for initial posters and return posters.

GOAL: Address the low standards in posting and/or complete lack of self-motivated research. Will the above provide instant MT config knowledge, of course not, but it will provide a solid, satisfying and happy start for those that comply. For those that don't, the extra time, no longer being wasted, can be used to help others.

Here are samples of what is discussed above and it basically falls into, DO THIS or READ THIS.
Perhaps both are needed!

SAMPLE TEMPLATE (Option 1)

1. Provide Network diagram here (insert): Must include WAN and SUBNET/VLAN details, Port details, Device Details etc.....
2. Provide all the USER REQUIREMENTS ( traffic flows of users/devices )
a. EXTERNAL Users (incoming) --> Via WAN / Via VPN
b. INTERNAL Users/Devices (outgoing) --> To WAN, to LAN, to VPN
3. Insert Config of Export Here:
4. Main Issue Statement: I cant do X, Error shows here, etc.

Sample Guideline Document (Option 2) - much supporting helpful detail removed for brevity.

Step1 - NETWORK DIAGRAM Provide a network diagram of your setup with enough detail so that the subnets (vlans), devices and their relationships are clearly established. If able, on the same, or perhaps separate diagram indicate the purpose of each port on your device. The network diagram provides the framework for the book which will help guide us towards a successful configuration.

Step2 - LATEST CONFIG EXPORT: Provide your latest working config. This is your draft of the config and from this draft we can see errors in individual lines and overall integration errors as well. It gives context or clarity to some ideas that you may express in the diagram or the later requirements. It also provides the maturity level of your understanding of RoS. Finally it provides more context.

Step3- REQUIREMENTS: Now that you have given us the the complete facts of your config (and not snippets please), it is time to communicate what you would like to accomplish with your config. Yes, you heard right, we don't want to hear about the issue just yet, but instead we want to know what you are trying to accomplish that is being thwarted by the config or the lack of knowledge on MT RoS. We cannot organize the config and integrate the various components ( write coherent and connected chapters in the book ) unless we understand what traffic all the users of the network (external, internal and admin) need to execute/accomplish.

***** HINT: There should be NO mention of the config or config parameters in the use cases. This is strictly descriptions of the ability for users/devices to conduct their work or normal activities. What is that work or activity that they must be able to perform.

Step4 - EXACT ISSUE: Now is the time to state what is NOT working. This includes what issues you may be seeing on the config of the router; what traffic flow is not occurring that should be occurring or that you wish to occur; or simply that you are stumped as to what to do next on the config. Provide sufficient detail so that you can be understood.

Step5 - RESEARCH: FINALLY ENSURE YOU HAVE DONE YOUR RESEARCH TO SELF-HELP using the below resources! You may discover the answers you are looking for, they may help flesh out the work needed above and they should ensure you ask more focused questions:
